Parliament of Kyrgyzstan demands to close embassy in Minsk

A member of the parliament proposes to close the embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Belarus.

“The Kyrgyz MFA doesn't analyse the effectiveness of country’s diplomatic representations abroad,” MP Omurbek Abdyrakhmanov said today at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on budget and finance.

According to him, there's no sense in keeping certain embassies and consulates open, 24kg.org reports.

“We spend a lot of money, but don't have any effect. I think it's impractical to have embassies in Malaysia, Turkmenistan and Belarus. Our runaway president lives peacefully in Minsk, but we cannot react to this. As a response, we should have closed down our embassy there. The ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Russia could hold talks if needed. It's the same with the embassies in Malaysia and Turkmenistan. I haven’t heard about diplomatic successes in these countries,” Omurbek Abdyrakhmanov said.
