The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its strong protest against detention of Ales Byalyatski.

The Lithuanian MFA also protests against actions in relation to Viasna human rights organization he is heading.

The statement on the MFA website says that Lithuania together with partners in the EU will take further actions regarding the release of political prisoners in Belarus.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it was not involved in disclosing bank accounts of Ales Byalyatski, the head of Viasna human rights centre.

Radio Racyja learnt this from Lithuanian MFA spokesman Mindaugas Lašas.

“The MFA is not involved in this,” Lašas said.

We remind that the human rights activist is suspected of “concealment of incomes on a large scale”. Earlier, a journalist and head of the Belarus Free Theatre said opening a criminal case against Byalyatski is connected with the fact that Lithuania disclosed bank information of Belarusian NGOs to the Belarusian authorities. The help to the repressed people is in danger now.
