Law-enforcing agencies of Belarus still do not respect the right of citizens for freedom of assembly, which is one of democracy pillars.

It has been stated by the Foreign Minister of Latvia Girts Valdis Kristovskis, Delfi reports.

He stated that Latvia is interested in stable relations with Belarus, but such actions of the authorities do not contribute to mutual understanding between the countries. “What is happening in Belarus since December elections is unacceptable for Latvia – court trials against presidential candidates and opposition activists, freedom of speech and freedom of mass media limitations, unwarranted use of force during protest rallies,” Kristovskis underlined.

He also expressed disappointment over Belarus’ not heeding to recommendations of Latvia or other participants of the European Union, and is coming to a deadlock.
