Mother of political prisoner sentenced to 10 day’s arrest

Alena Likhavid, the mother of political prisoner Mikita Likhavid, was detained yesterday during the silent protest rally in Minsk.

Today the court of Central district of Minsk passed a sentence on Alena Likhavid – 10 days of incarceration (judge Vajtsyukhovich).

The woman was detained near “Peramoha” cinema. When arrests were taking place, women standing nearby started clapping in protest. Riot policemen rushed at them.

We remind that for participation in a peaceful protest against rigged presidential election results on December 19, 2010 a 20-year-old activist Mikita Likhavid was sentenced to 2.5 years’ imprisonment in a maximum security colony.
