Members of the European People’s Party were not given visas to organize a working meeting in Belarus.

The EPP delegation led by vice chair Corien Wortmann-Kool met with Belarusian partners in Vilnius, “Narodnaya Volya” newspaper reports.

“The fact that the EPP delegation did not obtain visas shows that the situation is deteriorating in Belarus. The basic values and principles such as democracy, rule of law and human rights are still being violated. The political trials are unacceptable,” the party’s press service quotes Corien Wortmann-Kool.

The European People’s Party is the largest party in the EU. It won over one third of seats in the European Parliament at the latest elections.
