The Council of the European Union holds a meeting in Luxemburg on April 12.

The Council is expected to discuss developments in Libya, Middle East, Southern Caucasus, Belarus as well as human rights issues. The detailed agenda has not been published yet, BelaPAN reports with a link to the Council official website.

Delfi Internet resource reports referring to the document prepared by the Lithuanian MFA that the Council plans to discuss applying economic sanctions against Belarus. “First of all, the aims of these measures, modality and possible effect should be defined. Possibilities to lift these measures if the situation in Belarus changes must be provided. We do not welcome the economic sanctions that may harm the people of Belarus,” the news agency cites the document prepared by the Lithuanian MFA and submitted to the government.
