Minsk city executive committee denied a permission to hold Freedom Day rally on Yakub Kolas Square in Minsk on March 25.

It has been stated on March 18 by the deputy chairman of the Young Front Mikalai Dzemidzenka. On Friday a meeting of Minsk city executive committee on celebration of Freedom Day in Minsk took place. As said by Dzemidzenka, the city authorities of Minsk had offered the organizers to gather at Bangalore Square.

The organizers of the rally, Alyaksei Yanukevich, Leu Marholin, Ales Makaeu, Iryna Hubskaya and Mikalai Dzemidzenka were asked to sign the warning on responsibility for holding an unsanctioned march. Mikalai Dzemidzenka refused to sign the document and left Minsk city executive committee.

According to Young Front members, Lukashenka’s regime is exerting total pressure on opposition: the authorities do not offer to gather near the Academy of Sciences any more, they make them go to Bangalore Square [which is far off the city centre] at once.

A week before March 25 is left. The democratic forces are not going to change the date and place of the Freedom Day celebration: March 25, Yakub Kolas Square.
