Zmitser Bandarenka: “Lukashenka has nightmares every night”

The Belarusian dictator knows the scale of the catastrophe he has driven the country in.

Zmitser Bandarenka, coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus, told charter97.org commenting on mass searches in offices and apartments of activists of “Say the Truth!” campaign held throughout the country on May 18:

“Lukashenka know the scale of the catastrophe he has driven the country in. For a long time, he was able to stay afloat due to Russia’s aid and huge Western loans for the last two years. Today, even developed countries have to save and reduce their governmental expenses, leaving the Belarusian dictator without credits. Besides, the events in Kyrgyzstan have disturbed Lukashenka’s equanimity. Every night he sees his friend Milosevic dying in prison in The Hague, hanged Saddam, arrested relatives and bank accounts of his friend Kurmanbek. He knows he can share the same fate. This is the reason for the recent mad actions of the Belarusian law-enforcement bodies.

We remind that dozens of activists of “Say the Truth!” campaign were searched on May 18. The campaign leader poet Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, editor of “Tovarishch” newspaper Syarhei Vaznyak, activist of the United Civil Party Andrei Dzmitryeu were detained. The criminal case is initiated under article 250 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (dissemination of false information about goods and services).
