Militia tried to question Andrei Sannikov

On February 26, an officer of the Partyzanski militia department of Minsk came to apartment of wife of Andrei Sannikov, a coordinator of the civil campaign European Belarus.

“Investigator of the Partyzanski district of Minsk Alyaksandr Paznyak came to the apartment of my wife Iryna Khalip. He tried to question my wife and me in a case of defamation in the Homel region. He called us coordinators of the website Charter’97 and tried to question us in the apartment. I refused. The militiaman insisted that I should visit the Partyzanski district militia department next week to give evidence. He didn’t explain the essence of the case, my status at the questioning and the materials he meant. I think the authorities continue the campaign on eliminating the last spots of freedom of speech in Belarus. It’s not an accident that these actions are taken against the leading Belarusian independent websites. These events intentionally take place during a visit of the EP mission to Minsk to demonstrate again the impunity of the dictatorial regime,” Andrei Sannikov told in an interview to charter97.org.
