Belarus starts formal CSTO presidency

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) approved amendments to the organization’s charter aimed at improving the crisis response mechanisms.

This was said by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov.

He note at a press conference after sitting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers that the member states had agreed upon another package of issues regarding the collective peacekeeping forces, “readiness to perform peacekeeping tasks and allowing the CSTO Collective Security Council under certain conditions to send the collective peacekeeping forces for peacekeeping operations”.

Lavrov noted Belarus took on the CSTO presidency.
