“Regarding this year’s outcomes of relations with Belarus, I would evaluate them basing on the agreements signed by Russia and Belarus,” the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov said.

He told this in an interview to Russia-24 TV.

Russia was closely watching the course of the presidential campaign, Russia’s chief diplomat noted. “The results of the election as well as the campaign itself and the electoral agitation unequivocally shown that the Belarusian people continue to adhere to a policy of alliance with Russia.”

Speaking about the outcomes of 201o regarding the relations with Belarus, the foreign minister noted: “Regarding this year’s outcomes of relations with Belarus, I would evaluate them basing on those agreements, which were signed by Russia and Belarus on the establishment of a single economic area and progress towards a common Eurasian Union. We had some emotional outburst, but we take a philosophic approach.” As Lavrov thinks, it would be easier to solve concrete and essential issues without emotions.

“We are also satisfied that our efforts helped to release of Russian citizens who were detained in the evening of the election day on December 19,” Lavrov noted.

We remind that hundreds of Belarusians were arrested in Minsk on December 19 during peaceful protests against rigging the presidential election results. Democratic presidential candidates, members of their teams, activists and journalists have been thrown to the KGB jail. They may face up to 15 years in prison. The United States, the European Union and other democratic countries did not recognize the elections.
