On Sunday the candidate for presidency held a conference with readers of a local newspaper and met with voters in Baranavichy. In Dzyarzhynsk he was welcomed by a salute.

Andrei Sannikov had a conversation with readers of “Intex-press” independent newspaper over the phone and answered questions received by the website of the newspaper. After that a meeting with voters was held in “Tekstilschik” Palace of Culture. About 300 persons came for the meeting. They asked questions that interested them, informes “European Belarus” website.

In Baranavichy Sannikov was accompanied by his election agents: the first Defence Minister of independent Belarus General Colonel Pavel Kazlouski, and General Valery Fralou. The meeting was attended by military retirees, members of families of officers, so many questions asked in Baranavichy concerned the army.

When Andrei Sannikov and his election agents came near the House of Culture in Dzyarzhynsk, local democratic activists lit a firework. Sannikov was the first presidential candidate who visited Dzyarzhynsk during this election campaign, and he was presented to voters by the head of the territorial election commission, who promised Dzyarzhynsk dwellers that their votes would be counted conscientiously. Commanding officers of the town police and the headship of the local KGB observed the meeting.

Like dwellers of other towns, Dzyarzhynsk dwellers told about fraud during the previous election campaigns, complained about arbitrary actions of the local authorities, asked questions about the ways of solving problems caused by Lukashenka’s rule and asked what should be done to change the situation.

Interests of the regime were represented by three young men, who called himself “historians”, and who were sitting beside a police lieutenant colonel, teachers of the local grammar school, and a woman who said that she would vote for Lukashenka, as the trend demographic trend at the local textile factory is good. Local residents reminded her in response that over the years of Lukashenka’s rule the population of Belarus dwindled by 800,000 persons, and it is impossible for Dzyarzhynsk textile industry workers to solve this problem.
