Today is the 40th day after the death of he founder and editor of charter97.org website Aleh Byabenin (Oleg Bebenin).

On September 3 Aleh Byabenin was found hanged in his summer house near Minsk.

Law-enforcing agencies hurried to inform that it was a suicide. However the death of Aleh Byabenin raises many questions. Forensic scientists cannot even tell the exact time of the death. First it was stated the death took place on September 3. On the next day experts said that the tragedy happened on September 2. This date is recorded in the official death certificate as well.

Aleh Byabenin didn’t leave any notes. Friends and colleagues of the journalist say there were traces of violence on his body.

Representatives of the democratic community say it was “a political murder”. Aleh Byabenin was a member in the team of one of the main Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s challengers in the upcoming election on December 19, “European Belarus” leader Andrei Sannikov. Everyone remembers the result of the confrontation with regime for some opponents of the regime before the presidential election 2001 – Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatoly Krasouski, a former Vice Speaker of the Parliament Henadz Karpenka, a journalist Dzmitry Zavadski.
