Belarusian bicycle world’s champion Zinaida Stahurskaya died during training

A Belarusian bicycle racer died run over by a Russian Honda near Vitsebsk on June 25.

As BelaPAN learnt from the Republican Road Traffic Police, the accident happened on the 93d kilometre of the road Russia’s border–Vitsebsk–Homel at 1:24 p.m. June 25, when the sportswoman was training.

A Honda CR-V with Russian numbers, driven by a St Petersburg dweller born in 1967, was moving to Orsha when it began to go to the wrong side of the road not changing its speed. A couch was driving a VAZ-2104, Zinaida Stahurskaya was following him 10 metres behind. The cars managed to avoid the crash, by the bicycle racer was hit by the Honda, which drove into the ditch. The sportswoman succumbed to injuries, the driver was taken to the intensive care unit in the Vitsebsk Regional Clinic Hospital.

A pregnant daughter left to the 38-year-old sportswoman, who lived in Italy and went home for a visit. Zinaida was going to take part the country’s championship in Lahoisk the nearest weekend.
