DDoS attack on Charter website

  • 15.12.2009, 13:40

A DDoS attack on the website charter97.org started at 1:05 p.m. and is going on now. Internet censorship appears to have been put into practice before the scandalous draft law comes into force.

The technical support service has managed to minimize consequences of the attack; the website is not available for most visitors.

It should be noticed that charter97.org was attacked after text of the Draft Law on Measures for Revising Use of the National Segment of the World Wide Web had appeared on the Internet. The scandalous document says about blocking uncomfortable for the authorities websites, identification of Internet users, bringing those who spread information to responsibility, state registration of the Internet media.

A number of sharp articles have recently been published on the website. An interview with first head of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich, who made some critic remarks about Alyaksandr Lukashenka, was published today. An investigation by journalist Iryna Khalip over “dirty” methods of the Belarusian KGB in struggle for Georgian tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili’s estate. It should be noticed that tomorrow, on the Solidarity Day, a street action “Kidnappers Must Go to The Hague!” demanding to investigate the recent kidnappings of youth leaders in Belarus will be held in Minsk.
