This was said by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Belarus Giulio Prigioni.

“Belarus and Italy are on the important stage of establishing more active relations and the countries can give an impetus to the mutually beneficial cooperation in the near future. This is proved by the forthcoming visit of Silvio Berlusconi to Minsk on 30 November,” BelTA quotes the head of the Italian embassy.

“Belarus and Italy are undergoing a cardinally new period of cooperation,” the ambassador noted. “The history of bilateral relations has never witnessed the official visits of the Foreign Ministers and the Italian Prime Minister in such a short period of time.”

The foreign ministers of Belarus and Italy have exchanged visits this year. Syarhei Martynau visited Italy and Vatican in February. The Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini paid an official visit to Minsk on 30 September. He held top-level talks and signed an agreement on educational programs. Franco Frattini also met with Alyaksandr Lukashenka. The sides defined the lines of cooperation in the near future and confirmed the visit of Silvio Berlusconi on 30 November.

“This visit is held in response to the visit of Alyaksandr Lukashenka to Italy and Vatican this spring,” said Julio Prigioni.
