Kazulin invited, but not allowed to go

No representatives of Belarus were present at the session of the Council of European Union in Brussels on September 15.

Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Belarus Syarhei Martynau stays in Minsk. Alyaksandr Kazulin was invited to Brussels, but wasn’t allowed to the session of the EU Council.

Reasons of this behaviour are unknown. Alyaksandr Kazulin told his view of the situation to Belsat TV.

“I didn’t take part in the session of the foreign ministers. When the Belarusian authorities learnt that I would meet with the Council of Foreign Ministers, they used their diplomatic channels for this meeting not to take place. I drew confirmation that I would have a meeting with foreign ministers – friends of Belarus, but the meetings failed. When Lukashenka makes some positive statements and signs towards the European Union, they are afraid now a meeting with me may hinder this,” the former political prisoner said.
