Lukashenka gave Medvedev moral support

On August 28 Alyaksandr Lukashenka sent an address to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in which he in particular notes that “in the circumstances concerned Russia had no other moral choice but to support the address of South Ossetia and Abkhazia on recognition of their right for self-determination in line with fundamental international documents.

The leader of the state has also expressed an opinion about expediency of submitting this issue for consideration of the Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which is to take place on September 5, 2008, and adopting a consolidated position of the member-states.

Lukashenka has assured that the Republic of Belarus remains a reliable and consistent ally of Russia.
