New commander – Yury Khadzimuratavich Karaeu – has recently been introduced to the Minsk riot militia. He served in interior troops special forces under commandment of Dzmitry Paulyuchenka, suspected by the world community of kidnapping and murders of opposition leaders. Colonel Yury Padabed, who was in head of riot militia for more than 9 years, has been retired. Former riot militia commander is at hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs now.

“Why have I left my job? It was my decision. Everything has its beginning and end... I don’t know where I will work. I am at disposal of the city internal affaires department. I have some serious problems with health. I’m not kidding – I am at hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affaires now. I have problems with back bone, knees, blood pressure... It’s not surprising – work is nervous.

I repeat, I was my decision. Nobody pressed upon me, I am not a man that can be pressed on... I can just say that my wife is glad...” Yury Padabed told in an interview to Belorusski Partizan.

New commander of Minsk riot militia is Ossetian. He is about 42 years old. Yury Khadzimuratavich was a commander of a militia brigade in Homel. Before that he commanded a militia squadron in Babruisk, a battalion commnader in military unit 3214. Yury KAraeu graduated from Frunze General Staff Academy in 1996.

Note of www.charter97.org: In 2004, Yury Padabed was banned entry to EU countries and the US for cruel crackdown of peaceful demonstrations and beating of participants of protest action by riot militia officers.
