Washington condemns Lukashenka for placing Iskander missiles in Belarus

The US Department of State’s spokesperson Robert Wood negatively reacted to statements of Alyaksandr Lukashenka in an interview to The Wall Street Journal.

Mr Wood called his words about deployment of Russian missile systems Iskander in Belarus as a response to the plans of the US to place ABM elements in the Czech Republic and Poland “detrimental for the stability in the region”.

A representative of the State Department stated that a possible deployment of such missiles on the European continent is a security threat, Radio Svaboda informs.

Robert Wood has reminded again that the plan to create an anti-missile defense of the US in Europe is not aimed against Russia and Belarus, it is to withstand missile threats from the near East, in particular Iran.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka stated in an interview to the Wall Street Journal that Russia offered Belarus to place new missile systems Iskander at the territory of Belarus. But if it won’t happen, Belarus is ready to buy these systems for its own money.
